Week 2: Editing


After I transferred the video to my phone, I used another app to add music that I hold on my phone onto the video. I used a split/razor tool and edited the audio volume individually of each clip. I took the time to add a title to the beginning as well. I had extra clips on my phone that I had trouble putting onto the computer so I added them.


While I was editing, I came across the sizing and crop issues of some clips. I cropped all of them so that they fit the sequence. It took me at least an hour and a half to finish. For the title, I wanted to use a font that would add a sci-fi feel to the video. I edited the audio so that it fades in the beginning and fades out at the end.

Master edits with sound

    1.  Music: I added music for most of the video because I filmed at a park so I chose a song that          has a calm and upbeat sound which is technically a non-diegetic sound since I filmed it on my      phone before hand. The music sets a playful or mischievous feeling which when you think of a park you think of playful and sneaky kids. 2.  Sound bridge: I used music in the first half then when the video transitioned into the second I used a sound effect to indicate the transition from the picture to real life. The sound makes it seem magical as if I magically appeared at a park. 4.  Non-diegetic: For the second part of my symbolism video I used a sound of kids playing because without it, the video would seem off so with the background noise so when watching the clip it makes you feel like you are really at a park.           3. Film Practice Essay

  In the 2013 film “Agent Carter”, directed by Louis D’Esposito, it embraces many diverse camera angles and camera shots. In the first scene, Captain America appears in the shot while operating a plane. The first few seconds is a close up shot of him which then cuts to a close up of the character Peggy Carter. In this shot, there is an example of mise-en-scene as the setting is Peggy sitting alone in a dim room caused by lowkey lighting. The lowkey lighting is used to set a dramatic and emotional tone. The camera then cuts back to Captain America. He is seen putting a picture of Peggy on the dashboard of the plane while there is emotional non-diegetic sound playing. The use of this music impacts the scene as it makes the audience believe that in a couple of seconds, Captain America is going to die from a plane crash. Film Opening Research #2- Jupiter Ascending

  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Three: Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures, and Jupiter Ascending   What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? The first opening scenes of this movie are stars in the sky at night and a man looking at through a telescope. A woman then comes up to the man to ask him about what he is doing. There are no opening credits.   What connotations do the images carry? The image of the stars tells the audience that outer space or the stars are going to be important later in the movie. It also suggests that the activity the man is doing was not common.   How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? The genre of this movie is science fiction/action.
